Whateva - 2 1/2 Moderate alterna-hop effectively straddles the line between mainstream and underground rap without alienating either group too harshly, although ultimately the final product feels watered down and lacking replay value.
A classic Album from 2 of hip hops best - Slug has a fantastic swagger mixing pain and jokes he is a great rapper and manages to lay phenomenal rhymes over every song. And when matched with Ant s beats, consisting of strange rare samples, they create one of the most unique and most talented rappers in hip hop major and underground.
Strictly the best... - Atmosphere is one of those artists that always puts me in a good mood when I hear their music. Their style of wordplay and lack of gang violence and hood experiences makes this an enjoyable listen for many reasons. Hip-Hop/Rap was never intended to become what it was today, but a friend of mine from L.A. explained to me what happened to this genre in the early to mid 90 s. So it s refreshing to be able to have options like Atmosphere to listen to amidst the over saturated market of noise and negativity. God loves ugly is a great album and after buying this and one of the Sad Clown joints I pretty much got carried away and bought almost all of Atmospheres music. It s that good in my opinion.
God loves ugly and that s no lie - I first got ahold of this cd thanks to my brothers. The older one said the cd was worth a listen to just for F*ck You Lucy. The younger one said it was just worth listening to period. I have to agree with both. The rawness of F*ck You Lucy is just so... I cant even describe it. It s like taking a trip into Slug s mind and going through his memories of this one girl. It s just so personal that at first it feels kind of awkward and you dont know if you should be in there but then you realize he s the one who opened the door. Letting us into his world is like his very own therapy and I m kind of jealous of his brilliance. Then their s Hair I love the way it ends. It s reminds me of a poem from my childhood. It s one of my favorites. Then theirs Blamegame a reggae beat with slug rappin over it. Brilliant. Ant seems to blend his beats perfectly to Slug s words. I definetly recommend this album to anyone out there tired of that mainstream rap that all seems to be talking about the same tired old stuff. I used to be one of you until this album changed my life... well not really. GangStarr changed my whole view of hip hop. Still this is a good way to start. You wont regret it and if you dont like it well then maybe you should keep listening to your radio. I really love this album. So much so that I actually have two, one is for lending out to people who want to see what I m talking about and the other is one I listen to wherever I go. I just got their new album and I think I m in love all over again. I tell people that Atmosphere was my gateway duo to a whole movement of underground rappers I never knew existed and had been missing out on all these years. Now I m happy as a clam(^_^)
Love it. - This is the first album I listened to made by Atmosphere. I was immediately hooked to Slugs complex lyrics and truth. It s not possible to get tired of listening to his music unlike mainstream hip-hop. I would also recommend listening to You can imagine how much fun were having Headshots: 7 and both albums made by Felt.
